Ingress Protection (IP) ratings are developed by the European Committee for Electro Technical
Standardization (CENELEC) (NEMA IEC 60529 Degrees of Protection Provided by Enclosures -
IP Code), specifying the environmental protection the enclosure provides.
The IP rating normally has two (or three) numbers:
Protection from solid objects or materials
Protection from liquids (water)
Protection against mechanical impacts (commonly omitted, the third number is not a part of IEC 60529)
Example - IP RatingWith the IP rating IP 65, 6 describes the level of protection from solid objects and 5
describes the level of protection from liquids.
Lumen Output(lm): The SI unit of luminous flux of a quantity of light emitted by a source.
Lumen Per Watt(lm/w): How many lumens are produced for one watt of power.
The ratio of light emitted by a lamp to the power consumed by the lamp illuminance.
Lux(lx): The SI unit of illuminance and luminous emittance, measuring luminous flux per unit area. It is equal to one lumen per sq. metre.
CRI: Color Rendering Index. The effect of a light source on the color appearance of objects.
CCT: Correlated Color Temperature. A simplified way to characterize the spectral properties of a light source.
Kelvin(K): The SI unit for Color Temperature.
Maintenance Factor: The method of calculating light loss after installation.
Luminance Maintenance The loss of light from a luminaire after a given usage due to
Factor(LMF): dirt disposition
Room Surface Maintenance Calculate the light loss from reflective surfaces such as floors and walls
Maintenance Factor (RSMF):
Non Maintained: A luminaire incorporating one or more lamps which only function from emergency supply upon mains failure.
Maintained Type: A luminaire incorporating one or more lamps which function from both mains and emergency supply.
Combined Type: A luminaire incorporating two or more lamps, at least one of which is functioned from emergency supply only, and the other operated when mains supply is healthy
Self Test: Luminaires carries out periodical auto testing of battery, charger and lamp. If any faults found there is visual/wireless notification to user.
